程旭,卡尔斯鲁厄理工大学教授,入选国家级高层次人才计划。主要从事先进核能系统和核安全领域研究,包括反应堆热工水力、先进核能系统和反应堆安全分析等。曾主持国家973项目和多项欧盟重大科研项目。
报告摘要
Thorium-based fuel was used and/or tested in various reactors since more than six decades. Most recently, it was successfully tested in Chinese TMSR reactor and identified as one of the promising future reactor concepts.
Nowadays, more than 95% nuclear power is generated by water-cooled reactors (WCR) with Uranium-based fuel, where the (Uranium) fuel utilization is less than 1% and serious problem of the sustainability of nuclear power development would occur. Investigations on WCR with Thorium-based fuel started worldwide more than 60 years ago and lost weight in the past decades.
This lecture summarizes the previous studies on thorium-based fuel in nuclear reactors, emphasizes the importance, main merits and shortages of its usage in water-cooled reactors. Recommendations on future activities are given.
